Hoffa's Pennsylvania Convoy for Change

Attention Pennsylvania Teamsters, General President Jim Hoffa is going to be rolling through the state, leading a convoy of Teamster trucks from Scranton to Pittsburgh.

Hoffa will be stopping at a number of union work sites along the way to rally members before the April 22 Democratic primary.

Teamster TrucksWork site visits are the backbone of union political organizing. There's plenty of handshaking, backslapping and political fliers. It’s an opportunity for union members to talk face-to-face with their president and learn more about the issues that shaped the Teamsters' endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama.

I'm really looking forward to this trip. And I hope you will be able to join us or at the very least follow along as I blog about the whole experience right here. I'm going to be riding along with the General President and blogging about our stops. I'll have photos and hopefully some video clips to post as well. (It all depends on how well I can upload videos to YouTube using my wireless card.)

If you’d like to join the convoy and possibly get a chance to meet Mr. Hoffa, you're welcome to join us.

The schedule is still being filled in, but if you email me at teamsterpower1 (at) yahoo.com I’ll send you more complete details as I get them.

Here’s what I can tell you so far:

We'll be in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre Tuesday morning, then down to Allentown for stops at a Shop Rite distribution center at 3:30 and a UPS facility around 5. There will be a few editorial board meetings thrown in – gotta feed the MSM.

From there it's off to Reading where we’ll start early the next morning hitting a few yet to be nailed down locations. In the afternoon, we'll be stopping by the Hershey plant where for more than 100 years they used to make Luden’s Cough Drops and later Peppermint Patties and other candies. It was announced last year that Hershey is closing the plant and shifting the 260 Teamster jobs to India, China and Mexico.

Hoffa will be using the visit to emphasize how bad trade policies are killing jobs in the U.S., ruining local economies.

We’ll be leaving Reading and following the sun until we get to Pittsburgh. On Thursday, we’ll likely hit about four more work sites and meet with the local media. Then, it’s back to D.C.
