Since there is always a ton of stuff going on at the Teamsters, I thought to spend a few minutes to write about ways workers can get more involved online.
For one, we have total access to this UNOFFICIAL Teamster site where folks can comment on various issues we are dealing with.
Also, if you visited the Teamster site (http://www.teamster.org) recently you probably heard that the union is working on a campaign to get Mary Peters fired. Mary is the Department of Transportation Secretary. She is a real creep of a woman who has broken the law while putting all of our jobs and lives in jeopardy. Her most recent lawlessness came about when she single-handedly decided that she would go forward with the Mexican Trucking program, whcih was to be halted after an Omnibus Transportation Bill was signed into law on December 26, 2007. The Teamsters set up a separate site for that campaign at FireMaryPeters.com (http://www.firemarypeters.com). Go over there when you can and write about the fact that you don't want to go near a Mexican truck when driving a bus full of kids ... maybe someone somewhere along the line might actually wake up.
Finally, if you had not heard already, we have a School Bus Workers United Myspace page. Yes, you read right! We have only 40 or so "friends," but the list is growing. The link to the MYSPACE page is: http://www.myspace.com/drivingupstandards -- -and if you are on MYSPACE, please make sure you send a friend request. Also, if you want to have the current campaign logo on your MYSPACE page, you can get that from this site. On the home page, scroll down toward the bottom. Simply copy and paste the code and the image will appear where you want it to ... cool stuff, no doubt.
If anyone has any questions or concerns about doing stuff online, by all means let me know. I will do what I can to answer your questions, including getting someone who can if I cannot. My email address is Rnegri@teamster.org.
