Employees of RC Cola, a division of Cadbury-Schweppes, voted to become
Teamsters earlier this year. It’s the first union job for many of them and
they are looking forward to being part of their first union contract. The
drivers, merchandisers and pre-salesmen are all included in the new unit.
“We learned that employees of the other facilities in Louisville and Seymour
were union and that they were being paid more than we were,” said Manuel
Guitierrez Jr., a pre-salesman. “I’ve been working here for two years and
the company hasn’t yet told us about sick leave or personal time. Now I
understand that these will be printed in our union contract.”
“We won big when we got all of the job classifications into the
bargaining unit,” said Tom Vincent, President of Local 783. “The company
tried to resist the organizing drive, but the employees knew what they
wanted—and we won!”
